The Wayne Izaak Walton League would like to extend an invite to their Annual Open Gate Day on Saturday, May 17. The gate to the recreational area will be open to guests from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. This day coincides with the Nebraska Game and Parks free fishing day, so you do not need a license. All are welcome to see what the Ikes recreational area has to offer for outdoor activities. While visiting the facility everyone is welcome to fish, have a picnic, and enjoy the outdoors. Ike’s Lake from Wayne, is located 4 miles North, 2 miles west, and a 1/2 mile north on the right side. A 2025 Membership which provides area access is $70, which is available at Ace Hardware in Wayne. 'We encourage our members to use the area for fishing, canoeing, camping, picnicking, and bird watching,' said Erin Eilers, Wayne Ike's Chapter president. Membership fees go into stocking the lake, area maintenance, upgrading the facility, as well as aquatic vegetation control to promote fishable areas. Recent upgrade projects the local Ikes chapter have completed include additional playground equipment and a handicap dock.
