A Touch of Brass performs Thursday, Feb. 6 in Ramsey Theatre at Wayne State College. The 7:30 p.m. concert is free and open to the public and will also be livestreamed.
Repertoire showcases the virtuosic talent of the group. For example, “Just a Closer Walk” arranged by Don Gillis features a slow New Orleans style intro morphing into a lively Dixieland-style melody. Other selections include “What a Wonderful World” by George David Weiss, a ballad made famous by Louis Armstrong; the legendary and recognizable “William Tell Overture” by Gioachino Rossini; and the memorable and familiar “When I’m 64” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
A Touch of Brass includes David Bohnert, trumpet; Kevin McLouth, trumpet; Gary Reeves, horn; Randy Neuharth, trombone; and Josh Calkin, tuba. The group has entertained audiences in Northeast Nebraska and the surrounding area for more than 30 years.
